Stigma and misconceptions hinder epilepsy care in Kenya

    The Kenya Association for Welfare of Epilepsy has termed stigmatization as the main barrier to provision of medical care and support for epileptic patients in Kenya. Speaking during an epilepsy campaign program in Naivasha, Nakuru county, Kenya Association for Welfare of Epilepsy Chief Officer Ng'ang'a Ngechu noted that two out of every 100 people in the country suffer from epilepsy. He further termed the misconception linking the condition to witchcraft as the main reason for the increase in stigma against epileptic patients.
