The Kenya National Chamber of Commerce and KNCCI Embu Chapter has called for urgent consultations with the Embu County Government over the rising costs of business licenses, noting the annual doubling of the fees has become unattainable for business owners. KNNCI says the fee increment is being implemented without public participation. Speaking at a business forum in Embu Town, attended by representatives from the Kenya Revenue Authority and other key stakeholders, KNCCI Chairperson Mugo Mati observed that the abrupt fee hikes are in direct violation of the County Finance Act of 2019. He noted that the county has not enacted a new finance law, and any changes to the fees must be preceded by proper consultation with business owners.
