Hundreds of passengers travelling to various parts of the country were forced to spend the night on the road after heavy traffic paralyzed movement along the Nakuru-Nairobi and Mai Mahiu highways. The situation, worsened by heavy rains, prompted Inspector General of police Douglas Kanja to announce the deployment of additional officers to manage the gridlock. Kanja, however, blamed the chaos on motorists flouting traffic rules amid increased transport activities during the festive season.
