Trapped after River Athi burst its banks

Eight people, including an expectant woman, trapped by flooded river Athi at Kabaa area of Machakos county have finally been rescued. The eight were stuck for more than twelve hours in the flooded zone as a collaborative effort between Kdf's special unit and Machakos county government swung into action with a helicopter to rescue them. This comes even as motorists plying the Nakuru-Eldoret highway remained stranded for the second day after the closure of the road as KENHA warned of a possible collapse on the main road which transits from Nairobi to Malaba, and in Mombasa, residents have been asked to keep off the ocean because of the impact of the Cyclone Hidaya which is expected to hit the Kenyan Coast.
