Thousands of residents from Thange Ward and Masongaleni in Kibwezi East, Makueni County continue to suffer the devastating effects of an oil spill that occurred ten years ago. The spillage has left a lasting impact on the community, with their rivers and health still severely affected. Speaking to KBC Channel 1 the residents shared the numerous hazards they have faced, including a rise in deaths of humans and livestock and the degradation of agricultural land, which has led to poor productivity. The residents have strongly criticized Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) for failing to clean up the rivers urging them to take immediate action to clean up the area and compensate them for the damages they have suffered over the past decade.
