Environment and Forestry Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale has put on notice water and sewerage companies operating within Nairobi County for polluting the Nairobi River. Appearing before the Defense, Intelligence and Foreign Relations Committee, Duale also warned that the government may be forced to shut down 145 factories and slaughterhouses disposing waste into the Nairobi River. Duale also read the riot act to corrupt officers at the National Environment Management Authority to shape up or ship out.
