A new research center in Marsabit County is positioning Africa in the global space exploration arena.
Established under Mission MWEZI-1, the facility is designed to simulate life on the Moon while also developing practical solutions to challenges faced on Earth. The site was recently tested during a two-week simulation in which eight analog astronauts from Machakos University lived and worked in isolation within a fully off-grid habitat. Once complete, the research center is expected to train Africa’s first generation of analog astronauts and help local communities in Marsabit address issues such as waste management and access to clean energy.
