Residents of Lekiamu, Lamu County have raised concerns over frequent invasions by elephants in the region that they say have led to massive crop destructions, financial losses and food insecurity. According to the community, marauding elephants regularly trample on and consume their crops leaving farmers struggling to recover. Despite multiple distress calls to the Kenya Wildlife Service, the residents claim response has been slow further worsening the situation. They also decried of the lack of compensation, saying they have not received payments despite suffering repeated losses.
