45.6% of university students in the country have used at least one drug or substance in their lifetime. According to a survey conducted by NACADA in 17 universities involving 15 thousand students, 26.6% of students are currently using substances including alcohol, tobacco, cannabis or khat. The report released Thursday further revealed the drugs are availed by peers followed by lecturers. Speaking at the launch of the report in Nairobi Interior CS Kipchumba Murkomen has expressed alarm at the statistics, proposing for counseling for the affected students. The CS vowing that the government will hunt down drug peddlers together with politicians intoxicating the youth with drugs to cause violence at funerals.
