The Council of Governors has issued a 14-day ultimatum to the national government, threatening a total shutdown of county operations over funding cuts amounting to 38 billion shillings. According to county leaders, a significant portion of these funds are conditional grants from development partners, initially earmarked for critical projects but later diverted during the passage of the County Government's Additional Allocations Bill, 2025. The governors are also demanding the immediate release of the 78 billion shillings County Equitable Share, which has been in arrears for the past three months.
