Mining companies in the country have been directed to pay royalties upfront before extracting minerals from mining sites. Speaking in Kishushe,Taita Taveta county, Cabinet Secretary for Mining and Blue Economy Hassan Joho revealed that miners have been taking advantage of the existing legal loopholes by selling minerals and reinvesting the gains before paying their royalties which undermines the country's revenue collection from the mining sector. Joho further disclosed his plan to propose legal amendments in Parliament to reinforce and ensure adherence to the provision.
