Raila Odinga in South Sudan to Mediate Political Crisis

Former prime minister Raila Odinga has arrived in South Sudan after being appointed by President William Ruto as Kenya’s special envoy to help de-escalate simmering tensions in Juba. A fallout between President Salva Kiir and his first vice president, Riek Machar, is threatening to collapse a peace deal signed in 2018 that ended civil war in South Sudan. Machar has been under house arrest since Wednesday this week as the East African community, chaired by President Ruto, moves to diffuse the situation
