Chief Justice Martha Koome has called on judges to interpret labour laws in a way that addresses both economic realities and the constitutional duties to protect workers’ dignity and rights. Speaking virtually at the Employment and Labour Relations Court Judges Conference in Nakuru, CJ Koome highlighted the evolving dynamics of the job market, with the rise of gig work, artificial intelligence, and automation reshaping labour relations in Kenya. Additionally, Koome addressed the growing public scrutiny of the judiciary, particularly regarding case management delays and allegations of corruption. She acknowledged the frustration caused by frequent adjournments, which not only hinder the timely delivery of justice but also erode public confidence in the courts.
