Cultural practices and a lack of economic independence have been identified as major factors driving sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV) in Lamu County.
Speaking at a stakeholders’ forum aimed at reviewing progress in combating GBV and child abuse, participants expressed concern that, despite ongoing campaigns and government interventions, outdated traditions and economic dependency continue to perpetuate the crisis.
