The Kenya forest service (KFS) is partnering with local communities to plant and grow trees in what is seen as the government’s efforts to increase tree cover. The efforts include the return of the Shamba system, an agroforestry approach where local communities cultivate food crops alongside tree seedlings on government owned forest land.
