The murder of women and girls because of their gender continues to rise globally, despite efforts to address it. Killings by intimate partners or family members now account for the largest share of gender-based killings according to the latest United Nations report. 60% of all female murders are committed by an intimate partner or family member. All regions globally except Europe, have seen an increase in femicide cases, with Africa the hardest hit, recording an 8% increase. However, the true scale of the crisis may be worse as many countries still lack comprehensive data on femicide. #femicide #femicideanimation #animation Subscribe: http://bit.ly/subscribetoafrica Website: https://www.bbc.com/africa Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/bbcnewsafrica/ Twitter: https://www.twitter.com/bbcafrica/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/bbcafrica/
