The Opuntia stricta plant, a cactus native to the Americas, has proven to be a menace to residents who live in Laikipia county whohave lost most of their livestock to this dangerous plant. However through training from Northern Rangeland Trust the residents can now use a homely scale insect called a cochineal that makes the plant wither and produce fewer fruits and seeds, which ultimately leaves it unable to reproduce.
