Hapa ndipo alipokutana na mume wake, Yoshito Asai, mwaka 2013. Walioana na kupata watoto wawili, wote walizaliwa Uganda. Mwandishi wa VOA Halima Athumani na Mukasa Francis walikutana na familia hiyo na wanasimulia hadithi yao kutoka wilaya ya Kayunga katikati mwa Uganda. Asami amesema, kama mwanafunzi, alikuwa na utashi wa kujifunza kuhusu nchi zinazoendelea, hususan Asia na Afrika. Hivyo basi, wakati wa ziara yake ya m waka mmoja, iliyompeleka katika nchi mbalimbali, aliwasili Uganda, na kupata kazi ya kujitolea katika kituo cha yatima. Alifanya kazi hapo kwa mwaka mmoja kabla ya kituo cha yatima kufungwa kutokana na ukosefu wa ufadhili. Bado akiwa nchini Uganda, Asami alifanya utafiti wa njia nyingine za kujipatia kipato na kugundua kilimo kama njia inayofaa. Aliamua kufuata mkondo huo na kufanya makazi yake Uganda. Yoshito alihamia Uganda kama msafiri, akifanya utafiti wake kuhusu kilimo, wakati akiwa pia anatafuta kazi huko. Akiwa katika harakati hizo, Yoshito alikutana na Asami, na kuajiriwa naye, kabla ya wote wawili kuamua kuoana na kuishi Uganda.
