The murder of women and girls because of their gender continues to rise globally, despite efforts to address it. All regions globally except Europe, have seen an increase in femicide cases, with Africa the hardest hit, recording an 8% increase. However, the true scale of the crisis may be worse as many countries still lack comprehensive data on femicide.
