Calls for urgent reforms in Kenya’s mining sector are gaining momentum, with engineers raising concerns that the country’s mineral wealth is benefiting outsiders at the expense of citizens. Speaking at the Mining Engineers Society of Kenya gala dinner, Institution of Engineers of Kenya President Eng. Shammah Kiteme challenged professionals to push for a new mining approach, questioning the continued export of raw minerals and the missed job opportunities for young engineers.
