Thika Mattress Factory Inferno leaves one dead and five injured

One person has died, and five others are nursing serious injuries after a fire broke out at a mattress-making factory in the Makongeni area, Thika town Kiambu County. The inferno, which started at around ten this morning, quickly engulfed the plant, making it impossible to salvage anything. Fire engines from Kiambu and Murang`a counties came to contain the situation, but had a difficult time, even as calls for the installation of sufficient fire exits in factories to prevent future tragedies.
