Justin Muturi accuses Ruto of using cybercrime law to silence dissent

Democratic Party (DP) leader Justin Muturi has sharply criticised President William Ruto for assenting to the Computer Misuse and Cybercrimes (Amendment) Act, 2024, describing it as a tool to criminalise dissent rather than fight online crime. Muturi argued that the law targets citizens who speak truth to power instead of hackers or fraudsters, terming it “a law against courage” and “a weapon in a paranoid regime’s arsenal.”
