The Parliamentary Committee on Housing, Urban Planning and Public Works has concluded a fact-finding mission in Kiambu County, where the National Government is constructing more than two thousand affordable housing units. The team says the project is progressing well, but raised concerns over establishment of the school infrastructure. The committee, led by Chairperson Johana Ng’eno, toured the ongoing Kiambu housing construction site, which will host over 2,000 units.
Ng’eno says the committee has identified a schooling challenge that may arise once the project is occupied, warning that nearby schools may face overcrowding if plans are not addressed urgently. John Njuguna Kawanjiku Member of Parliament for Kiambaa added that due to land shortage, they have also pushed for modern market facilities so that allocated funds are not returned to the treasury.
