The United Nations family must speak with one voice and act in unison at the community level to reduce waste globally, households, retailers and food services discarded an estimated 931 million tonnes of food in 2019, equivalent to 17% of all food available to consumers. Strong coordination across UN agencies, local governments and grassroots actors is essential to turn this tide.
