Communities around the Mida Creek ecosystem in Watamu are reaping the benefits of conservation efforts, four years after the launch of the annual Watamu Conservation Festival.The festival brings together environmental organisations, government agencies, and local fishermen to promote sustainable fishing and mangrove restoration.Organisers say awareness campaigns have led to better fishing practices and a significant increase in mangrove cover. Environmentalists credit the formation of the Mida Beach Management Unit for empowering fishermen to take part in data collection and conservation planning.
