The Kisumu Maximum Prison has taken a major milestone towards sustainability with the commissioning of a Sh 5.9 million solar power plant funded by the European Union (EU) and implemented by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) under the PLEAD II program.
The project, which was officially launched by the State Department for Correctional Services, is designed to provide clean, renewable energy to power the entire prison facility home to more than 2,300 inmates.
