A group of cancer patients and survivors is calling on the government to significantly raise taxes on tobacco and nicotine products to finance treatment for cancer and other non-communicable diseases (NCDs).
During a roundtable forum in Kisumu County that brought together hospices, hospitals, patients, and health experts, survivors urged policymakers to increase tobacco taxes to at least 70 percent of the retail price or 75 percent of total taxes as recommended by the World Health Organization (WHO).
