Traditional fishermen in Saint-Louis, a fishing hub in northern Senegal, have accused the British oil and gas giant BP of severely impacting their primary source of livelihood.
An offshore liquified natural gas platform operated by the multinational company as part of a joint venture is blamed for depriving them of access to a natural reef rich in fish. As a result, they now struggle with smaller catches, rising unemployment, and increasingly difficult living conditions.
The BBC’s Paul Njie and Michel Mvondo travelled to northern Senegal to witness the situation firsthand.
