President William Ruto has formally appointed Douglas Kanja as the 5th Inspector General of police under the 2010 constitution. The formal appointment for a period of four years paves the way for his swearing in.Kanja was vetted mid-last month and was approved by the National Assembly on Wednesday while Senate had given his nomination a nod last month. Kanja is a career policeman who rose through the ranks to deputize immediate former IG Japheth Koome who resigned from office at the height of young people protests across the country. After Koome’s resignation, he served as the Acting IG before his nomination by the President. Gilbert Masengeli has been serving in an acting capacity.
