Authorities in Kiambu county are sounding the alarm over an increase in road accidents, attributing the rising death toll to speeding motorists and pedestrians ignoring designated crossing points.
National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) Regional Manager Kendi Mutuma noted that many of the accidents have occurred along the Thika Superhighway and sections of the Nairobi-Nakuru Highway. It was also noted that despite the presence of several footbridges along the highways, many pedestrians still dash across the roads even as vehicles move at high speed, while others cross while using earphones or mobile phones, making them less alert.
