A consortium of civil society organizations is demanding immediate action from the government to improve treatment services to cancer survivors offered under the Social Health Authority. This follows claims by a section of cancer survivors in Nairobi of their frustration due to their inability to access life saving mediation. Addressing the Media as part of the World Cancer Day commemoration in Nairobi, the cancer survivors lamented that since the transition from NIHF to SHA, funds meant to cater for their medical attention have been slashed from 600 thousand shillings to 300 thousand shilling per year. The patients also claim that despite paying for medication 6 months in advance they are not able to access the drugs from public hospitals.
