The transition from the National health insurance fund(NHIF) to the Social health insurance fund(SHIF) has seen hundreds of chronic illness patients in various parts of the country struggle to access critical care after most facilities rejected NHIF cards instead demanding for cash payments. In Nakuru the pain of the SHIF transition was felt by those with critical illnesses as many were required to pay for services upfront. The ministry of health has directed all healthcare providers to ensure that services for SHA members remain uninterrupted.
