The smart city concept is quickly catching up in Africa with a dozen dotting the continent at various stages of construction. In Kenya, the government has been implementing the Konza Technology city with the first phase already complete. Privately initiated smart cities like Tatu City and Mwale Medical and Tech city have also come up wooing investors with cheaper power, tech-driven services and better returns on investments. We talked to Julius Mwale, the founder and chair of Mwale Medical and Technology city on what inspired him to sink billions of shillings to set up a smart city in a village in Butere, Kakamega County.
