President William Ruto has chaired a high-level meeting on African Union institutional reforms, bringing together senior African Union officials, representatives from Kenya’s Foreign Affairs Ministry, and members of the High-Level Panel on African Union Governance, Peace, and Security.
President William Ruto, in his capacity as the African Union Champion for Institutional Reforms, convened a high-level meeting to review progress on key areas of the African Union reform agenda. The meeting brought together members of the High-Level Panel on Governance, Peace and Security, the African Union Commission Chairperson, and senior officials from Kenya’s Foreign Affairs Ministry and the Kenya Mission in Addis Ababa.President Ruto received a consolidated report with recommendations focusing on revitalizing peace and security frameworks, sustainable financing of the Union, operationalization of the African Court of Justice, and streamlining of the African Union Assembly’s structure and decision-making processes. The discussions underscored the need to strengthen the African Governance and Peace and Security Architectures to address the continent’s complex challenges.Among the key proposals were the repositioning of Africa amid a global geopolitical reset, revitalization of Pan-Africanism, and renewed commitment by African Union Member States to complete the reform process in line with Agenda 2063 aspirations. The recommendations will be presented during the Special Summit on African Union Reforms slated for November 26th in Luanda, Angola.
