The Government is appealing to striking dons to return to the negotiating table and allow the resumption of learning in public universities. Higher Education Principal Secretary Beatrice Inyangala says the Ministry and union officials had already agreed on five contentious issues calling for an end to the grandstanding. This even as learning in 35 public universities across the country remained paralyzed as lecturers and university staff downed their tools for the second day in defiance of a court order barring the strike. Our reporter John Jacob Kioria visited some of the public universities where there was little or no activity reported with lecture halls remaining deserted as students chose to stay away or roam he university grounds.
