Angry residents of Mahigaini and Ngucue villages in Mwea-East Sub-County, Kirinyaga, took matters into their own hands, storming the houses of two men accused of murdering 16-year-old Purity Makena. The girl's body was discovered near Thiba River in Mwea-West Sub-County on Christmas Eve, sparking outrage. The irate villagers dumped the deceased’s body at the doorstep of one of the suspects' homes, accusing them of the crime. Police officers from Wang'uru Police Station and Assistant Chief George Mungai lobbed tear gas to disperse the crowd who left a trail of destruction in their wake damaging the suspects' property.
