Ugandan military prosecutors added a charge of "treachery" - which carries the death penalty - to the list of violations of military law they say were committed by Kizza Besigye.
A prominent opposition figure, Kizza Besigye, is accused of 'soliciting military support overseas in order to destabilise national security as well as illegally having a firearm. He denies all charges.
Mr Besije went missing in the Kenyan capital Nairobi in November. Days later he reappeared in front of a military court in Uganda, despite being a civilian.
Waihiga Mwaura spoke to Mr Besigye's wife WInnie Byanyima.
