Principal Secretary Mary Muthoni cited poor housing, poor personal hygiene and spending time in fleas infested areas as some of the major contributing factors for jigger infestation. Statistics from the ministry of health indicates that close to 1.4 million Kenyans are affected by jigger infestation.
