NEMA directed to hear a petition seeking a halt to the development of high rise buildings in Malindi

    The Malindi Environment and Lands Court in Kilifi county has referred a petition seeking orders to stop the construction of a multi-million highrise building in the Casuarina area to the National Environment Management Authority and National Environmental Tribunal. Justice Mwangi Njoroge of Malindi Environment and Lands court while issuing the ruling however said the petition would not be struck out from the court pending the determination by NEMA and NET. The petition which was filed on October 18, 2024, by Rita Valentini a resident in the area, accused Faryd of unlawfully constructing a three-story residential building in an area designated as a low-density residential zone with development policies by Kilifi County prohibiting the construction of high-rise apartments in the area.
