The annual meeting of the Multi-Sectoral Agencies Consultative Committee got underway Monday with players calling for more legal powers to address challenges facing the construction industry. The committee which brings together major actors in the built environment wants the government to give it a legal status to streamline its operations. Public Works cabinet secretary Alice Wahome says the committee has become critical in addressing key gaps in the construction industry like professional negligence, lack of adherence to the building code among others. Formed in 2015 to coordinates multiple agencies involved in construction and other development projects, the committee ensures safety and order in construction and development projects, Issues enforcement orders, Condemns buildings, and Reviews progress on projects.
