Catholics across the country have today turned out to churches in large numbers to commemorate the first day that marks the beginning of the lent season popularly known as ash Wednesday.

This season is observed for 40 days during which Christians observe in fasting, prayer and repentance in memory of the suffering, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
