Former Miss Lang'ata Women's Prison, Ruth Kamande will continue serving her life sentence for killing her boyfriend, Farid Mohammed Halim in 2015. This is after the 7 Judge bench of the Supreme Court dismissed her appeal for a reduced term or retrial. Kamande had sought to introduce the concept of battered woman syndrome as a defense, arguing that her case raised issues of general public importance. She was convicted in 2020 for stabbing her then boyfriend Mohammed Halim 25 times.
