Kenyans have been urged to go for early cancer screening which is crucial for effective treatment and management of the killer disease. Medics at Kenyatta University Teaching Referral and Research Hospital (KUTRRH) are emphasizing the importance of early detection as the global community marks World Cancer Day celebrations this week. Oncology nurse Lydia Mugithi, leading a free screening camp at the facility, stated that detecting cancer at stages one or two significantly increases survival chances. This comes at a time when Kenyatta University Teaching Referral and Research Hospital is facing a critical shortage of chemotherapy drugs. Patients have reported being forced to purchase the medication from external pharmacies for the last two months due to the shortage.
