A section of conservationists in Malindi, Kilifi County are calling for urgent government’s intervention to curb illegal dumping of waste in the region. The environmentalists under the Umbrella of Progress Welfare Association of Malindi say the haphazard dumping of waste is threatening the environment and Indian Oceans’ aquatic life. Led by Malindi Green and Blu chairperson Effie Opiyo, the stakeholders have also raised concerns over the increased encroachment of the riparian land within the region which further exacerbates environmental pollution. The conservationists who spoke during their monthly clean up exercise in the area, at the same time advocated for heightened sensitization of members of the public to curb the menace.
